; Hulme, 2016: 413). This could in a way explain why the Arctic would be the most deeply affected place by climate change, but the usefulness of the projects and the way they are publicly communicated definitely ensures they bring enough attention to them (Sands et al., 2008: 115). As early as 1992 the UN drafted the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), which has since acted as a beacon in this field and has been followed up by other commitments to reduce and mitigate climate change, such as the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement (Crown Courier, 2017: 1). Throughout the years, the UNFCCC has developed to become a strong international programmatic tool that works towards the global mitigation of the ongoing climate change. This is of course yet more of a proof of how widespread the issue is and the eminence of the change it can bring in the world. Nevertheless, the UNFCCC is not the only international treaty that has been implemented over the past two decades with the aim to reduce the ongoing change. As early as 1997, the Kyoto Protocol laid down the afore mentioned caps to CHG emissions which involved the majority of the world’s nations, to a certain extent had a dissuading effect on the consumption of fossil fuels, and in a way contributed to the raising of awareness on this climate related issue (European Union, 2016: 1; Hulme, 2016: 413). In the same vein, the Paris Agreement of 2015 specifically calls for countries to combat gas emissions assiduously, and this agreement in particular has been an indicator of how international cooperation and consensus can be an important factor in such situations, especially since it drew almost every country in the world to set a goal to reduce their CHG emissions and to be held accountable for their progress concerning this goal through regular scrutinizations (Climate Change Scouts, 2017: 1; United Nations, 2017: 1). These commitments definitely show a remarkable level of awareness, but recent trends and data have left the international community a little concerned (Climate Change Scouts, 2017: 1; Hulme, 2016: 415). Although there is still a lack of scientific consensus on some matters concerning the impact of climate change, there are yet many factors that are the reasons for the global community to be so worried; one of which is the immediate threat represented by the constant rise in the average global temperature (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2017: 1; United Nations, 2017: 1). This, when coupled with the ever increasing amount of CO(_2) and other GHGs emission by countries, raises eyebrows in the community (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2017: 1). There is much indignation globally from people and scientists alike: both camps agree that scientific fact is being ignored by those denying the scientific consensus on climate change (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2017: 1; Hulme, 2016: 415). Furthermore, the public uncertainties concerning climate change are also an addition to this outrage, as the majority of people believe that climate change is a hoax crafted to frame and defame certain politicians and governments (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2017: 1). This notion is quite considerably high among the public, especially in countries where the issue is a politicized one (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate, 2017: 1; Hulme, 2016: 415). However, while there is undeniable evidence that climate change is the result of GHGs emissions being released into the atmosphere by every nation in the world, what is still disputed is exactly for what reason these GHGs are being released (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2017: 1; Hulme, 2016: 415). So, with the politicization of this issue rising though mostly within certain countries, it is all the more necessary to take up this momentum and know how to address it quickly and effectively.
Climate change, as it is apparent, is a serious global issue and one that is globally agreed to be anthropogenic. The only thing left unanswered is about how fast the global community will be able to respond and act on this issue. This is why it is important to take up this momentum and know how to address it quickly and effectively. There is a widely agreed scientific consensus that climate change is caused by the continual emissions of GHGs by every nation in the world, in addition to other factors like deforestation and overpopulation. The only thing that is still widely disputed on is about the share of these GHGs being released to each nation in the world. This is why it is important to take up this on momentum and know how to address it quickly and effectively. Climate change is a serious global issue and one that is widely agreed to be anthropogenic. The study aimed to assess the applicability and appropriateness of the AII approach to address vulnerability in urban areas of Bangladesh. It including vulnerability to different factors like flooding, droughts, water scarcity, land, urban air and water quality, by exploring the relationship between these factors and the Geographical concept of vulnerability. The study concluded that the AII approach was appropriate to address vulnerability in urban areas of Bangladesh in terms of providing solutions to problems in urban areas of Bangladesh.
The key findings of the study are:
-
The AII approach effectively handled vulnerability in urban areas of Bangladesh by providing solutions to problems of different factors like flooding, droughts, water scarcity, drought, urban air and water quality.
-
The biggest factor concerning environmental change was the change of sea level, which is a worldwide factor that contributed to the individual and population’s vulnerability on different occasions. It was concluded that the global phenomenon of sea level rise was the primary factor determining the vulnerability of coastal states around the world.
-
The P/AII approach emphasized humanity’s desire to focus on its own self serving goals and interests, and this is why it is viewed as inadequate and incompatible with sustainable development agenda.
-
The P/AII approach fails to consider the future and present needs of the world and environmental changes, which are progressively interconnected and dependent on each other.
- The evaluation and investigation through the observation and analysis of the study has been able to assess a general indication on the world’s capacity in realizing socio-economic development, developing international cooperation, and sustainability.
In conclusion, it can be stated that the conclusion is about the environmental and pro activities and its activities that provide vulnerability in urban factors, the crucial findings are that the approach is appropriate to manage vulnerability in the urban areas of Bangladesh regardless to provide solutions to approach that are presented in the study.
